I can’t agree more with Dee Kennedy’s review of last night’s Il Dvio concert ! The time we did have with Il Divo was unblievably great, beautiful ! The violinist was fantastic ! The Holly Cole session was a debacle to say the least. My problem is that Holly Cole is a Jazz Vocalist being part in an Opera environment ? Il Divo carries long, strong notes where Holly Cole basically “talked” thru her music ? Holly’s last song, where the audience almost “booed” her off the stage was a “sit on a stool” Jazz ensemble that was quite pleasant, however, the audience had had enough to be able to appreciate the music for what it was worth. Long story short, as long as Holly Cole is part of Il Divo’s concert, there will be disappointed audiences !

Went to see Il Divo tonight in Atlantic City. The show should have been called “Il Divo and Friends”. Not enough Il Divo. The first half of the show ran a mere 30 minutes with only about 4 songs from Il Divo. The rest of the first half was violin Solo’s and Orchestra. The second half of the show was worse with 4 numbers by Holly Cole. It was painful to sit through. People were laughing and booing. One lady sitting next to me thought we were being “punked”. Then it was time for the violinist to join the group again for another song and she was nowhere to be found. They introduced her, but she was over 2 minutes late getting to the stage. The four members of Il Divo hadn’t a clue what to do next. The audience was so disgusted, they didn’t even wait for the orchestra to take their bows at the end of the show, and didn’t ask for another encore. The audience couldn’t wait to get out of there. It was the worst. On the way out everyone was talking about how bad Holly Cole was. She ruined the whole second half of the show. She was so bad that when Il Divo took the stage again, everyone was too disgusted to enjoy the rest of the show.

According to owners, Roy Thomson Hall, located in the heart of the King St. theatre district, opened in 1982. Its curvilinear exterior design and sloping glass canopy, which is reflective by day and transparent by night, have made this concert hall a Toronto landmark. Roy Thomson Hall is the home of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, premier venue for the gala screenings of the Toronto International Film Festival and the venue of choice for corporate events throughout the year.
