The original brainchild of writer Rina Durante, Grecanico Salentino Canzoniere (Italian Best World Music Band – MEI 2010) was founded in 1975 and is the foremost and longest-standing traditional music band from Salento, Puglia. The band has been led since 2007 by renowned frame drum percussionist Mauro Durante.

Ranging from the energetic punches of fiery Italian tartella, to tender songs of love and longing, with the exuberance of celebration and an ironic glance towards modernity, Canzoniere provide an intense and atmospheric spectacle. Canzoniere’s live concerts are an explosion — full of energy, passion, rhythm and mystery, bringing audiences from the past into the present, and back yet again.
