MJ spent her childhood in rural New Brunswick. Too shy to even speak at age 5, MJ found a love for dance by age 10, and began singing in her teens. Eventually, she made her way to musical theatre school in Toronto – finding joy in playful collaboration. Showtunes soon led to singing originals, then accompanying herself on guitar or keys while experiencing the thrill of writing her own material. Her downtown apartment became an impromptu jam space; a welcome place for fellow musicians to create, and play together. In this environment, MJ quickly found her unique voice among the array of instruments, pedals, and recording equipment. Indeed, Toronto has been fertile ground for MJ, having completed two EPs (‘The Bottom Line’ & ‘Ladders’), music videos, and more than a few live shows around the city. MJ has toured extensively in support of ‘The Bottom Line’, across Canada, The United States, and New Zealand.

With diverse musical roots and the spirit of Canadian indie comes the first full length release from Before The Flood. “Bars Wire and Wood” (Quarry Records) is an album soaked with lyrical imagery and is fueled by a fusion of alt-rock and experimental folk. An interpretive style that’s been in the making since the bands inception in early 2005.

They have currently worked with producer/mixer/masterer Reuben Ghose, whose recent projects have been With recent projects include Hawksley Workman, Feist and Broken Social Scene presents Kevin Drew.

“I’ve been making a record on Toronto Island with Dale Morningstar for a little while. It features Peter Hall (ex A Northern Chorus) on percussion, Cameron Malcolm on bass, Aaron Goldstein on pedal steel, Adam Melnick on keys and Alex McMaster on cello. It’s been a long process but I’m relieved to say the album is finished now. I’m just trying to find a nice label to put it out for me, so that folks might be able to listen to it in their living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, or backyards. I’d really like it to exist on vinyl, too. You can wait for the record to be pressed, or you can listen to the songs I’ve posted here. The video below features a song from the record that I wrote while I was in India.

Love,

terra lightfoot"

Amy Hunter is a folk singer/song-writer from Toronto, although she is currently living in Waterloo disguised as a psychology student. She got her guitar, Richard, in December 2008 and has been with him ever since. It has been quite the amazing love affair.

Her debut album, Amy Hunter, is a live recording of her first five songs and was released in April 2010. The whole experience was and continues to be both amazing and surreal.
