The Beautiful Girls are an Australia three piece, drummer Mitch Connelly, bass player/vocalist Clay MacDonald and guitarist/vocalist Mat McHugh.
The Beautiful Girls began organizing themselves during the summer of 2000, the band was a result of the trio – coming from bands that were musically heavier – breaking with their own musical traditions. The initiatives for this change happened during McHugh’s time spent traveling through India and America the previous year. Where six solo months in India gave him time to think about his approach to music, another six in America gave the opportunity to exercise this new approach.
The band, once formed was originally content to sit and play to their friends on the northern beaches of Sydney and at jam nights in and around Bondi. This all changed in 2002 when the band released their acclaimed first album, and have practically been on the road non-stop since, touring extensively in Australia, Japan, North America and Europe.
Predominantly playing roots music, they have released three EPs, plus three full length albums. Their electric harmony of rock, reggae, pop and folk has drawn comparisons with Xavier Rudd, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Mason Jennings and more recently The Police.
Joining The Beautiful Girls will be New York based reggae band Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad.
