Event Description


Twm: Squid Lid, Prizzy Prizzy Please (Chicago), The Sky Of Sound

This night is a bit out there. Not that being out there is a bad thing. Mike Patton is a bit out there, the Fiery Furnaces are a bit out there, Panda Bear is a bit out there, that uncle you love but your family isn’t so sure of is a bit out there. Sometimes being out there is rather refreshing. So with that in mind, this is a show for many of you who have a tough time getting your ass out to shows because you want to hear something new. On May 21st, you will hear something new.

The night is headlined by a bizarre, wild and yet odly compelling local act by the name of Squid Lid. Take a look at their myspace, it isn’t just a clever name. Here is a snippet of how they describe themselves:

“Squid Lid is the twisted musical brainchild of James Fisher and Jonah K. Coming from the diverse backgrounds of theatrical soundtrack and dance floor electronic music, this duo has joined forces to concoct a remarkable new hybrid sound: cinematic circus break beats which draw elements from drum ‘n bass, dubstep, and industrial. All this is accompanied by a mesmerizing stage show; a live and wriggling spectacle of glowing monsters and creatures that change their faces before your very eyes!”

Starting the night is the Sky of Sound! I haven’t seen the Sky of Sound live, but the myspace sends strongs hints that the live show should be pretty wicked. I love when bands are growing rather than peaked, Sky of Sound strikes me as such. Here is their description of the sound:

“The five piece bands sound is total psychedelic, pop, rock with hints of reggae and mind bending sweep picking, shred, blues and jazz solos. Not your typical band. "

And in the middle we have a treat from Chicago in Prizzy Prizzy Please! Prizzy Prizzy Please is the perfect meat to this show sandwich. At times their music strikes me as funk, other times hair metal, other times punk and then all of a sudden they break into a sick groove. Very rare a band will make me think of Guns N Roses, Scissor Sisters, and Parliament within one sitting. But Prizzy Prizzy Please are that band.
