Event Description

Pwyc Weds W/ Auto Manic, Bronze Leaf, Nightbox (Ireland)

This is a PWYC Weds that covers a lot of parts of the globe. A band from Ireland who happens to be spending sometime in Toronto, a local band, and a band from Edmonton.

As always when we have touring bands coming through I truly appreciate your effort to make the show. You won’t be disappointed.

Nght starts with Night Box. I have yet to hear the band live so I’ll give you the description on the myspace, and my friends who have seen them live agree this is very fitting:

“ounding rhythms, soaring melodies, and a manic energy that sweeps up all in its path: Nightbox are not in the habit of taking prisoners. Canadian audiences be warned, you’ll wear out your dancing shoes in a hurry now that the group Heineken Music dubbed “the next big Irish band”* has brought its sonic assault to the land of the Maple Leaf."

Then we have Bronze Leaf who are on tour having just released a split 7". Bronze Leaf is folk with pop sensibility. Excellent songwriting, and vocals are hallmarks of Bronze Leaf’s sound. Here is a press quote:

“Amy Macdonald has already enchanted many softies with her haunting, skilfully crafted singer/songwriter fare. She’s a stand-out in the genre with her boundary-pushing guitar playing, emotionally-charged lyrics, and beautiful vocal melodies. Go see her.”

- SEE Magazine, Local Artists to Watch

Closing the night is Auto Manic, who I am particularly excited to see. This is an acoustic band, but this isn’t at all what you might think when you hear acoustic band. Meticiulously thought out tunes, layers of darkness wrapped throughout. I find listening to their myspace to be a very neat experience. Here is how they describe the band:

“From architecture to music, we champion unique style and composition. AM is formed from original-thinking architecture students brought together by music. A design-based education has irrevocably influenced our music. Balance, intricacy, minimalism, harmony, dissonance and duality are the cornerstones of our sound and structure. We are an acoustic band that that believes in diverse tunings, unconventional time signatures, and manic energy. The music evokes an emotional landscape that is as multi-faceted as the musicians creating it. "
