Esthero is returning to Toronto this June as part of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival. Esthero, the Ontario born singer and songwriter has been making a name for herself in both Canada and the United States, since the release of her 1998 debut album Breathe From Another. Her sound characteristically features her voice over a mix of mellow bass lines, jazzy trumpets, Spanish guitar and hip-hop, and has been compared to artists such as Björk, Portishead and Sade.

She has released two full-length albums and collaborated with such artists as The Black Eyed Peas, Mos Def, Nelly Furtado and Sean Lennon. In 2007 the Toronto based singer, made the move to Los Angeles, where she is currently based.

Since moving to the U.S, Esthero has been involved with a number of high-profile collaborations including the viral sensation “Yes We Can”, a song inspired by a speech delivered by Barack Obama and produced by Will.I.Am. Esthero also provided the voice of the spaceship J.A.N.E. on Kanye West’s Glow in the Dark tour and appeared on his album 808s & Heartbreak, on which she co-wrote three tracks.

2008 saw her take on the role of producer for a track from Dangerous Muse’s debut album and as co-writer on Brandy’s album Human. She is featured on hip hop music producer Timbaland’s 2009 album Shock Value II on the songs “Can You Feel It” and “Undertow” with band The Fray.

This year, Esthero joined forces with fellow Canadians K’Nann, Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne, Drake, members of Broken Social Scene, Emily Haines and James Shaw (of Metric), Serena Ryder and teen heartthrob Justin Bieber, among others in a re-recording of K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag” to benefit Free the Children, War Child Canada and World Vision Canada, in support of their relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

2010 will also see the release of Esthero’s third studio album, her first full-length in five years.
