Shatter The Hotel: A Dub Inspired Tribute to Joe Strummer – Official Canadian Launch Event

Still buzzing after a highly successful UK launch in London along with fans, friends and family of Joe and The Clash, Shatter The Hotel’s Toronto contingent are back and ready to launch in their hometown. Please join us on Friday, April 30th at Rancho Relaxo to celebrate this event and to support Strummerville: The Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music.

Our lineup for the night so far features 2010 JUNO award co-nominees Dubmatix and Prince Blanco along with DJs Citizen Sound, Nate Wize and special guests.

Canada’s ‘Dread At The Controls’ Dubmatix will be mixing live dubs of his trademark reggae productions that feature artists such as Alton Ellis, Michael Rose and Sugar Minott. Dubmatix most recently teamed up with Don Letts and Dan Donovan (Big Audio Dynamite) recording their version of London Calling for the Shatter The Hotel project.

UK expat reggae singer Prince Blanco will be going ‘back to his roots’ to perform a live set of Clash/Strummer songs with a stellar backing band of Toronto punk rock veterans: Chris Farr, Dan Farr (Guitars), Dave ‘Grave’ Cornelius (bass) and Gary Cozocar (drums).

DJ/Producer Nate Wize is back in Toronto following a ‘Gold Medal’ DJ appearance in Whistler BC to throw down his dub-hop flavours including his Shatter The Hotel contribution, Rock The Casbah (“when’s the last time you heard a Clash cover that’s actually better than the original?” says Lucid Culture about this track)!

DJ/Producer Citizen Sound is returning from London via Amsterdam where he rocked a crowd of close to 1,000 dubheads with his signature reggae and funked-up dub productions. A well-hyped new single with Blessed is currently buzzing around town and will be released on the day of the show (April 30th). Citizen Sound’s debut album hits the shelves this summer.
