Event Description

TWM: Volcano Playground, Indian Handcrafts, Hands & Teeth, In Plain View

TWM is happy to debut some bands for Toronto that we are really excited about and can’t wait to see live.

The night starts with In Plain View. We had In Plain View at a PWYC a few months back and they really put on a kickass show. Since he is a better linguist than me here is Lonely Vagabond’s take on the band:

“This three-piece creates a balance between swirly shoegaze atmospherics and shimmering noise-pop weaving through touches of psych-rock. Backed by trippy vocals, propulsive drumming, and chiming guitars swimming in an ocean of reverb, the sound conjures other styles by a band inspired to create something all their own.” – The Lonely Vagabond "

Then we have Hands & Teeth. Hands & Teeth are an exciting new project based out of Toronto which features multiple lead singers from other bands & Jeffrey Pinto (My Shaky Jane). They have some live demos up on their myspace and while they are a bit rough I’m really feeling what they are going for here. It is jangly, catchy, raw and rockin’ all at the same time. You can read a bit about the band over at their website here (http://mandrillproductions.com/handsandteeth/).

THen we have have Indian Handcrafts who you aren’t going to be able to listen to. You are just going to have to trust that Brandyn and Daniel (Fox Jaws) aren’t going to start a side project if it isn’t going to be interesting and good. I’ll be hearing it for the first time as well. I hear it is loud.

Closing out the night are Volcano Playground. I’ve had about 10 people from various parts of the country telling me about this band and yet this is the first time I’ve booked/seen them. I love this quote describing the band and really think they nail the sound on the head:

""It’s spacey shoe-gazing for a diorama of celestial cutouts clad in aluminum, creaking on a string, foam planets and candy-coloured rocket ships…"

- William McGuirk, writer for Oshawa/Whitby this week."
