PWYC Weds: Grim Preachers (comeback show), Erik Jorgensen + Big Rude Jake!

Listen up my friends… this night is going to be potentially the most awesome, outrageous and creative PWYC Weds night in the history of the series.

Got your attention?

The night marks the return to the live stage of the newly revamped Grim Preachers! The Grim Preachers have played several shows at Rancho. They are the Thelonious Bajcar’s band and they put on a wild and always entertaining show. For this night they will be playing two different sets with different preachers joining Bajcar on stage. The show is raising money for the upcoming Grim Preachers album.

It also features a very special appearance from Big Rude Jake! Here is a snippet from Big Rude Jake’s bio:

“My name is Jake.

I was born in the smallish town of St. Catharines a long time ago. When I was a teenager, my parents got sick of the suburbs and we all moved to a farm outside of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Then, for a long time, nothing happened.

Until, one day, I had this idea. I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool to have a really unusual band, one that was drastically different from all the other bands that I knew…�

I thought, “the sound of this band I should combine my interest in traditional jazz, jump blues, rockabilly and punk. And the lyrics should express my love of all my favourite power-house song-writers, like Tom Waits and Bertold Brecht.�

Then I thought, “I should have a really ‘in-your-face’ stage persona: something that would be considered all provocative and such…�

That’s when it hit me: I would become the man known as Big Rude Jake."

And starting the night off is Erik Jorgensen. Erik has been a frequent visitor to the Rancho but has yet to hit the stage. We break that streak on Weds night. Erik said he might have a band for this show, I’m not sure if he does. But he does have a bassist for sure. Erik will be warming you up and setting the stage for the insanity to follow.
