Event Description

TWM/CMF: The Leathers, Wordburglar, The Lytics, the Rhythm Method

TWM is so excited for CMF this year! The good people of the festival were kind enough to allow TWM to book the vast majority of the shows and so we’ve built a string of nights highlighting some of the best music of the festival. This is just the second night of five nights and TWM/CMF bring to you some of best indie hip-hop in all of Canada ! Keep in mind Rancho’s license allows us to be serving till 4 am throughout the festival!

Starting with David Dallas. David is making the trip all the way from New Zealand! That’s nuts. We’ve never had an act from New Zealand at Rancho before so that is exciting. CMW is really stoked on David’s sound into the festival and while I haven’t been able to see his live show yet (obviously) I’m really looking forward to it.

Carrying the torch from there will be Halifax’s the Rhythm Method. If you were at the show they did at Rancho last time they need no introduction. Eventually at about 3 AM we had to clear the dance floor out and move the party elsewhere. These girls kickass! But rather than me describe them I thought I’d use their CMF website quote: “The Rhythm Method is Halifax’s only all-female, hip-hop trio set out to inform you on more issues than even your gynecologist cares to.”

Then we have the Lytics! The Lytics are from Winnipeg. I friggin love the ‘Peg. I feel like its the gritty third line center of the Canadian Music Scene. Totally underappreciated but makes the whole thing go. I won’t be surprised in the least if this band puts on the best set of the night. Here is how they describe their sound: "The Lytics blend addictive hooks with witty raps to create positive and uplifting pop hits. Influenced by pre-90s hip hop and smooth Motown classics, The Lytics capture a diverse audience with music aimed to be fresh and accessible. Or as they like to call it “Boombox music”.

No TWM hip-hop showcase would be complete without WORDBURGLAR! This man has been part of some of the most epic shows in Rancho history. A part of the Backburner crew Wordburglar is in for a busy month playing CMW and then later on SXSW. You don’t need to love hip-hop to love Wordburglar, but you might love hip-hop after you’ve seen his set.

Then we have back to back sets from the Vinyl Tap label. Starting with the Leathers! The Leathers are comprised of two accomplished rappers (Atherton + Pbrain) but when you put them together and drape them in Leather they become the hip-hop superduo the Leathers! Hip-hop powers activate!

And then we have Ottawa’s Homebased. Homebased are another pillar of the Vinyl Tap label. Going strong for seven years and still as hungry as ever! Homebased have played Rancho a few times before but its been ages and we cannot wait to have them back.

Something will be happening at 3 AM as well. Stay tuned for an update on what that will be…
