TWM/CMF: The Wilderness, Adebisi Shank, Pick a Piper, Ace Kinkaid, Hot Kid!

TWM is so excited for CMF this year! The good people of the festival were kind enough to allow TWM to book the vast majority of the shows and so we’ve built a string of nights highlighting some of the best music of the festival. This is just the first night of five nights but I bet you we have the best lineup anywhere for the Weds night! Keep in mind Rancho’s license allows us to be serving till 4 am throughout the festival!

The festival kicks off with the always kickass Hot Kid (Cambridge)! Hot Kid are a ferocious rock two piece fronted by Shiloh Harrison. They’ve also recently brought in drummer Robbie Butcher. Robbie (formerly of Tin Bangs) is in my opinion the best drummer in Toronto. So come get your face rocked off and let Hot Kid get you into festival mode!

After that we have Ace Kinkaid (Waterloo), who will be bringing their instrumental genius back to the Rancho Relaxo. These guys are masters of their craft, ridiculously tight, highly experimental and hypnotic.

Then we have one of the highlights of the festival, Pick a Piper. The band definitely has similarities to Brad’s other band (Caribou) but it takes the percussion to another level and the live show is so packed with energy it almost becomes a cult like experience. Rumour has it Pick a Piper will have not one, not two but three drum kits on stage for what is sure to be a legendary set!

TWM has always loved it when Irish bands grace our stage and so we are stoked for Adebisi Shank. This band is pure rampant chaos! Played at a breakneck pace with viciously catchy grooves and a live show said to be an unbelievable experience. This is the hardest instrumental dance band you’ve never seen.

And closing out the night is the Wilderness! The Wilderness will have freshly wrapped their ongoing one Saturday a month residency at the Cameron House. A new album coming out sometime in 2010. And then the world! Seriously though, these guys kick ass. So much energy on stage. Definitely one of the most fun live shows in the city. The type of band you want to see late late on Weds evening. The type of band that truly closes out a CMW kickoff party!
