9:30 pm – 10 pm
LARRA SKYE
http://www.larraskye.com

  • In 2006 when she just 22 years of age, Larra’s debut “The World Disappears” was one of the top 10 selling independent jazz albums in the country! Tonight, she shows off her formidable (and bilingual) singer-songwriting talents with a rare solo set!

10:15 pm – 10:45 pm
VANESS ALEGASSI
http://www.myspace.com/vanessalegassi
Guided by Canadian Idol music director Orin Isaacs, Vaness is a 21-year-old multi-faceted entertainer; who combines the presence of of a pop star with a singer songwriter’s vulnerability. This genre-bending artist reclassifies traditional Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, and Soul, and morphs them into a new sound she calls “Riddim Rock”.

11:15 pm – 11:45 pm
FREEMAN DRE & THE KITCHEN PARTY
http://www.myspace.com/freemandrethekitchenparty

  • Freeman Dre is a street-wise troubadour with a propensity for writing three-chord tunes with incisive lyrics, free of unnecessary metaphor. Think of Townes Van Zandt with a hip-hop attitude. The name is a nod to the east coast tradition that Dre and the gang have brought to his Parkdale bachelor pad, where the group descends each week to jam until the neighbours complain.
    .
    midnight – 12:30 AM
    MELTING POT
    http://www.meltingpotband.com
  • Melting Pot delivers all-original vintage-style soulful rock, in the great tradition of bands like the Black Crowes, Cream, and Grand Funk. The lyrics are raw and honest, the hooks grab you from the first note, and the jams burn with an intense and infectious groove. Their 5-song EP charted at #4 on the CIUT 89.5 FM in November 2009; and they recently opened the Blue Light Border Cross series in Buffalo, raising money for Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper.

1:00 am – 1:30 am
HUELEPEGA SOUND SYSTEM
http://www.myspace.com/huelepegasoundstyem

  • Huelepega is music from the gutter, inspired by the dark places of Latin America that the consulate warned you about. The four Huelepegistas channel decades of DJing and performing experience into this startling new sound. It might not get you on the dancefloor, but it just might get you off the couch.

DJs: eLman & David Dacks (CIUT 89.5 FM)

http://www.theabstractindex.blogspot.com

Live and direct from CIUT, we’re blessed to have two of the best selectors in the city on the decks. Every Tuesday morning at 11 am, eLman takes you on a journey to the farthest reaches of the Latin music diaspora on Canada’s best alternative Latin radio show “Dos Mundos”. By Wednesday night at 6 pm, you should have recovered sufficiently for “The Abstract Index” with David Dacks, a funk-and-groove odyssey guided by one of the most knowledgeable selectors in this or any other country. And both of these guys interview as well as they spin…
