Goin' Steady Monster Mash

This Halloween
Goin’ Steady Plans The Biggest Monster Mash Yet…

For the 5th year in a row the Goin’ Steady DJs are pleased to announce their 2009 Monster Mash edition will be bigger, better and scarier than ever.

The party will be happening Halloween night, Saturday October 31st at Lee’s Palace in Toronto.

The doors will open at 9pm.

There will be no advanced tickets, just $10 at the door all night.

This is a costume party known for high quality get-ups far beyond budget witches and one-sheet ghosts.

In addition, the DJs are excited to announce that they will be working with Jeff Garcia and the Exploding Motor Car collective to transform Lee’s into a frightening array of spooky projections and multimedia mayhem.

This collective is known for their creative mash-up of imagery and sound, both in the professional field of music video and the spontaneous realm of art performance and installation. You can preview the work of Exploding Motor Car here:

The Exploding Motor Car artists will be “performing” all night long, adding a brand-new atmosphere to the always-rammed dance floor.

Goin’ Steady is the ever-popular, long-running 50’s & 60’s themed dance party which has consistently packed venues around Toronto since its premiere in July 2005.

It was the party that led to the discovery of the Boat in Kensington Market and has since graced numerous stages around the city, including the Gladstone Ballroom, Footwork Bar and now Lee’s Palace.

The party was dreamt up by three friends looking to create a different kind of party atmosphere; one that would capture the raw energy of the golden age of youth music without relying on tired retro cliches.

The tight knit team of Louis Calabro, Matt Cully and Wolfgang Nessel dug deep into the past to find the most electrifying, most essential rhythm & blues, outlining the blueprint of rock and roll in each of their unique sets. Since Nessel’s departure in 2007, Cully and Calabro have continued to turn audiences on to the best of old fashioned beat music; from jump blues to doo-wop, swing to calypso, girl groups to surf and the weird and unseen world of American and international rock music.

Since their first party in 2005, the Goin’ Steady DJs have developed a dedicated following of local fans who not only dance the night away but dress the part. It is not unusual to see girls and guys dressed up to the nines in the height of fifties fashion. The Monster Mash, their extremely popular Halloween edition, has steadily become the mother of all costume parties in the city.
